In 1981 Louisiana passed a law
that any public school teaching
evolution must grant equal time
to creationism. In 1987 the U.S.
Supreme Court found (in Edwards
vs. Aguillard) the law unconstitutional,
as it “advances a religious
doctrine by requiring either the
banishment of the theory of evolution
from public school classrooms
or the presentation of a
religious viewpoint that rejects
evolution in its entirety.”
